Robert Pattinson's training and diet for the role of Batman

To play Batman in Matt Reeves' last film, Robert Pattinson had to adhere to an intense bodybuilding program and follow a mass diet. Not used to attending gyms, the 35-year-old British actor won several weekly training sessions to put himself in the place of the famous Bruce Wayne.

He made himself known in 2005, in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He plays the young Cédric Diggory, alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Robert Pattinson has also played many characters in independent films. His career took a new turn in 2019, when he was chosen by Warner Bros. to play Batman, along with Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman.

But with a very dry basic physique (1.85 meters by 75 kilograms), the task would be difficult. In the DC Comics universe and in the imagination of fans, Batman is a muscular superhero. In comparison, his predecessor Ben Affleck measured 1.93 meters by more than 90 kg when he played the Gotham City vigilante in films such as Justice League or Batman vs Superman.

He agreed to build muscles 3 months before the start of the shooting. For those who have seen the movie, the result is correct, but not frankly impressive. Batman's costume plays a lot with the visual impression on the screen.

In terms of physics, he is light years away from Ben Affleck, or even Christian Bale, who also played Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight.

PATTINSON'S TRAINING

Robert Pattinson totally assumes the fact that he doesn't like physical activity. Robert Pattinson's training program included cardiovascular and strength training sessions.

In terms of cardio, he did 3 tours of 5 to 10 kilometers of running per week. He also boxed it with punching bags, certainly to eliminate the fat mass and prepare the combat scenes of the film.

On the side of muscle strengthening, he favored functional exercises of the military type, in the form of a circuit. He trained a lot on the sand performing, for example, squats with heavy bags. He also did sessions in the bodybuilding room, based on polyarticular movements to develop the different muscle groups.

Robert Pattinson stopped playing sports as soon as the movie The Batman was filmed.

The diet

Every day, his goal was to consume about 2,700 calories in order to develop his muscles. Quite logical for a man your size. His diet included a lot of carbohydrates and proteins, and very little fat.

Breakfast, the first of your 6 daily meals, contained 500 calories with a high intake of carbohydrates:

  • 2 whole boiled eggs

  • 40 grams of oats

  • 150 milliliters of almond milk

For the morning snack (around 10 a.m.), Robert Pattinson used to eat 400 calories:

  • 150 grams of tuna

  • 4 rice patties

  • 20 grams of peanut butter

At lunch (500 calories), the British actor preferred foods well known to bodybuilding practitioners:

  • 180 grams of cooked chicken breast

  • 200 grams of sweet potatoes

  • Vegetables (zucchini and peppers, for example)

  • 20 grams of oatmeal cookies (low sugar)

  • 180 grams of cottage cheese

  • 150 grams of red fruits (strawberries, blueberries, etc.)

Robert Pattinson's dinner (600 calories) was again quite classic, with:

  • 200 grams of lean meat

  • 200 grams of basmati rice

  • 150 grams of green beans

Finally, he had one last 350-calorie meal before going to bed to supplement his nutritional intake:

  • 1 banana

  • Some spinach leaves
