Amsterdam pulls the brake and changes most of the "freedom" rules

The largest city in the Netherlands has had difficulties in dealing with the influx of tourists arriving in the city. Amsterdam only has just over one million inhabitants, but receives more than 17 million tourists every year.

Tourists are attracted by tolerant policies towards the trade in light drugs, by the extended opening hours of restaurants and by prostitution, which is totally legal in the country.

"The residents of the historic center suffer a lot from mass tourism and the abuse of alcohol and drugs on the streets. Visitors also attract street vendors who, in turn, generate crime and insecurity," says the Amsterdam municipality in a statement.

In addition to the prohibition of the use of light drugs in public spaces, the restriction of the operation of restaurants and prostitution, there will be restrictions on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. There is also the possibility of closing the streets of the Dutch city with greater affluence.
