7 easy tips for organizing your closet, from organization experts

Open the closet and have a lot of messy clothes, not knowing where that shirt is, having the closet bursting with so much clothes, the smell of mold. Learn what to do to have a more organized closet.

1. Organize the clothes by category and then by color

The work clothes should be separated from the other clothes. Leave a small open space between the sections so that you can easily distinguish your clothes. If your space is limited, use colored dry bags in your closet.

2. Do not hide unused hangers

Every time you take a shirt or pair of pants off a hanger, move that hanger to the front of your closet immediately. Not only will it be easier to find hangers when you need them, but your closet won't be so tight, she says.

3. Have hangers that look the same

You have probably collected various colors and types of hangers over the years, but you have consolidated yourself into only one type. When all your hangers are similar, your eye immediately focuses on your clothes.

4. Be careful with your accessories

We are talking about your scarves, belts, hats and ties. A rack will help your belts, hats and ties keep their shape better than if you put them in a drawer.

5. Use wall hooks on your closet or bedroom door

Install hooks on an empty wall of the closet or on the back of your closet door to hang your hats and other miscellaneous items.

6. Use a laundry basket with separators

To defeat the pile of dirty clothes on the floor, use a basket with three slots: a bag for light clothing, a bag for dark clothes and a third bag for dry cleaning.

7. Follow this universal rule

If you haven't used an item in the last year, donate it. Otherwise, it's taking up valuable space - and you probably won't lose it.
