First World Cup in three countries (USA, Canada and Mexico) and with 48 teams

The 2026 football world championship will be revolutionary. After seven editions with 32 teams, FIFA decided to extend the tournament to 48 teams. Another of the great news is that for the first time in the history of the world format, three countries will organize the World Cup: USA, Canada and Mexico.

The 2026 World Cup will take place between June 8 and July 3 and its official designation is United2026. It will be held in 16 stadiums, mostly in the US. Two of the stadiums are in Vancouver and Toronto (Canada), three of the stadiums in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara (Mexico), and the remaining eleven venues in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Seattle and San Francisco (USA).

The time zones will be very different from country to country and also depends on the zones in which the meetings will be played. The northern part of the US and Canada have a cooler climate, while the southern US and Mexico have a warmer climate at this time of year.

Each confederation will have an increase in the participating teams: UEFA (Europe) goes from the current 13 teams to 16; CAF (Africa) takes 9 teams instead of 5; AFC (Asia) doubles the number of teams to 8; CONCACAF (North and Central America) doubles to 6 teams; CONMEBOL (South America) increases to 6 teams from the current 4; OFC (Oceania) will have 1 guaranteed selection in the United2026 World Cup.
