Netflix reveals in documentary the rise and fall of Pornhub

Netflix launched a streaming service to entertain. Relaxing and resting were synonymous with the good content of the platform. Everything changed and the platform began to bet on various content, from reality shows to documentaries. The platform details in a documentary the rise and fall of the Pornhub site.

Entitled Moneyhshot: The Pornhub Story, the documentary that demonstrates how the site began to change the way its hardcore porn is made, distributed is consumed worldwide. Launched on March 15, it has interviews with porn stars, activists and former Pornhub employees.

It is impossible to quantify the meaning of the adult material platform in the porn industry. Pornhub allowed sexual content creators to reach a huge audience, while the platform profited billions. However, all this has led to some of the biggest scandals of non-consensual material on the site: “As anti-trafficking organizations seek justice for the victims, can the online giant protect those who profit from, or is this a new wave of censorship for adult artists doing consensual pornography?”, reads the Netflix description.

Launched in 2007, Pornhub saw its YouTube and Instagram accounts permanently closed, after allegations of distributing child pornography and videos of unconsensual sex, where the company would have profited billions. In 2022, the banking entities Visa and Mastercard cut the processing of payments for TrafficJunky, the advertising arm of MindGeek, the company that owns Pornhub, to sell ads on its website.

"This documentary requires us to deal with what sexuality and consent mean when billion-dollar internet platforms thrive in user-generated content," says producer Suzan Hillinger.
